In 2006 Las Vegas was eclipsed by Macau as the gaming capital of the world. Not far from Hong Kong, the former Portuguese colony of Macau attracts millions of visitors from mainland China keen to wager their bets at legal casinos. In fact, The Wall Street Journal reports that gambling revenue in Macau just hit an all-time record high- at $3 billion in the month of May. Driftwood and Apollo launch joint real estate venture

Driftwood Hospitality Management began $400 million joint venture with a real estate investment fund managed and advised by affiliates of Apollo Global Management on July 12. Through their collaboration, the companies have launched a broad acquisition strategy pursuing the purchase, renovation, and reflagging of full-service hotels across the United States.

Qantas pilots threaten strike over cheaper Kiwi counterparts

The turbulent times for Australia’s national airline Qantas are continuing, with pilots threatening to strike for the first time in 45 years.

The pilots overwhelmingly voted for their first walk-out since 1966, alleging the company will replace them with cheaper pilots from countries such as New Zealand.

Some of the 103 Kiwis employed by a Qantas shelf-company registered in New Zealand called Jetconnect, are being paid a lot less than their Australian counterparts.
