‘Get organised’ for hassle free travel during RWC

Whether you are sticking around or jetting away to ditch the masses during this year’s Rugby World Cup, the advice is to get organised or be disappointed. Brent Thomas of the House of Travel says even at this early stage, many flights and the Inter-Islander ferry are booking up fast during September and October. “Many flights are already full, if people are thinking of planning to go to the games, they need to plan early,” he told TV ONE’s Breakfast. “The flights over the Friday and the Thursday before the games in Auckland particularly, are very very fully booked already, so if people are planning to go, plan early.” Some tickets are already in the hundreds of dollars, much above their regular cost. Ticket to ride for overseas visitors

INTERNATIONAL visitors are being enticed to Queensland with a ticket to ride which allows them a train ticket from the Gold Coast to Cairns for $219, with unlimited stops along the way.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk says the special Queensland Coastal Pass is exclusive to overseas visitors, and aimed at attracting backpackers back to popular tourist destinations affected by the recent natural disasters.

“There are also many work opportunities up north as communities move to rebuild,” she said in a statement.

“The Queensland Coastal Pass is great value and the most flexible, easy and versatile way to discover the coast of Queensland.

“The Queensland Rail travel network provides the gateway to all the tourism hotspots including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast, The Whitsundays, Townsville and Cairns.”

The latest Tourism Research Australia figures show the number of international visitors to Queensland and particularly the Gold Coast has increased for the first time in three years.

Visitors from Korea increased 22 per cent and China by 17 per cent with growth from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Queensland Coast Pass is available to international visitors up to May 31 and travel must be completed by June 22.
