Be lazy with a good pub lunch
Summer: synonymous with sun, flip-flops, bucket & spade, camping, blue skies, ice-cream in a cone, flaming red suntans – ouch – sunglasses, kicking a ball in a park, reading a book in park, canoodling in a park… well, there’s a lot of things. Too many to list, but you get this gist.
What we like at cottages4you are good ole pubs, beer gardens and a healthy portion of scrumptious food.
For those that are considering a cottage in Kent for a nice, well-deserved break from whatever life is throwing at you; then indulge yourself, adopt a laissez-faire attitude, enjoy yourself without guilt.
In fitting with this indolent spirit we have compiled a small list of pubs for you and your family or friends to enjoy with absolute aplomb.
Ah the Duke William, as regal sounding as anything can be with Duke in front of. This is a typically country-style pub and restaurant, which even has a useful area for your angelic children to occupy themselves in.
All the produce is locally sourced and homemade so you can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll be getting something very distinct as opposed to the everyday grub available to you back home.
Shot pigeon, pheasant, slow cooked pork and so on; this is a carnivore’s dream.
Which brings me nicely onto Hare and Hounds, a perfect segue by any definition. Here you can find yourself enjoying a crisp pint of traditional ale and a dish with locally sourced sausages parked on the side.
Afterwards, belly full, smile of satisfaction, there’s always room for dessert. We recommend the pie, they’re famous for that.
No such opportunity to move on to the next pub with a seamless link, the Duke and the Dragon – unless we consider the mythical dragon as a real creature and therefore part of the animal kingdom – another characteristically country pub. Try out the grilled pork loin with apple, sage and cider gravy.
Not to forget the vegetarians, of whom there are many in this wonderful world of ours, we recommend maybe trying the risotto with white wine, cream cheese and sunblushed tomatoes.
The Lady Luck sounds like our kind of haunt. Dubbed the rock and roll right in the heart of Canterbury. Aside from the obvious lick of rock and roll in the background, there’s a smashing selection of munch to satisfy you grumbling stomach.
The gourmet burgers are a speciality here, which is topped off with a nice cool milkshake. Now that’s rock and roll.
Enjoy yourself, but not too much. Heed the words of Sophie Kerr: “An industrious sinner I much prefer to a lazy saint.”
