The Isle of Wight Old Gaffers Festival – nautical but nice?
Travellers bound across the Solent to the Isle of Wight for June 3rd will be just in time to enjoy the nautical celebrations that will be taking place in Yarmouth until the 5th.
The island’s annual Old Gaffers Festival will be celebrating its 15th year in the town’s harbour and visitors will be able to admire the resplendent array of Gaff rigs that line up in the water to be admired by maritime enthusiasts.
In addition to the boats on show, tourists will be able to enjoy tribute bands and the fare on offer at the continental market, where gourmets can tuck into cheeses, tarts, ciders and numerous other foreign delicacies.
The high point of the festival is undoubtedly the Queen’s Jubilee Race, which takes place on the morning of the final day and sees yachts from the Solent Yacht Club sail at speed for the sought-after title!
And those heading for the Isle of Wight a little later in June may be able to catch the famous Isle of Wight Festival, which this year will feature headliners including the Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and the Kaiser Chiefs.
