Air news: Ed flies on the Bruce express
BRUCE Dickinson, Iron Maiden’s lead singer, moonlights as a pilot for Iceland Express (IEX) – and now he’ll get to fly his own, branded plane.
The band’s official tour plane, a Boeing 757 known as Ed Force One – after the group’s famous mascot Eddie – has now joined the IEX fleet.
Bruce flew the plane into New York last week and will continue to fly for the Icelandic low-fare airline between touring, writing and playing with the heavy metal band.
He said: “I love New York City and it is great to fly there on the same Boeing 757 that we just flew around the world on our Final Frontier tour.
“I think it is very cool that the colours of the Iron Maiden livery have stayed on the plane.”
ONLINE community Netmums is calling for clarity on the dates mums-to-be can fly before they give birth.
Right now it varies from 34 to 37 weeks depending on the airline and causes confusion for many.
Siobhan Freegard, of Netmums, said: “Mums want clear information. Standard airline guidelines would relieve some of the stress and time spent planning a holiday.”
LOW-cost airline bmibaby will fly to seven new destinations from summer 2012.
There will be flights from East Midlands Airport to Gibraltar, Corfu, Murcia and Naples, and from Birmingham Airport to Lisbon, Rome (Fiumicino) and Barcelona.
The airline will also launch year-round flights to Cologne from East Midlands and to Prague from Birmingham. .
BANGKOK is the best-value destination for UK flyers, pound for mile.
But we’re paying 16 per cent more for long-haul flights than other European countries.
Research by price comparison site Kelkoo.co.uk shows we are paying 14.5p per nautical mile(nm) and the average for Europe is 12.4p. But a flight to Bangkok from the UK is just 5.5p per nm. India came second at 7.6p.
