End of the line for Gill’s
People who booked with the company will have those reservations honoured as the company was protected by an ABTA bond and through the ATOL scheme. Travel association ABTA said: “Customers should hear from their cruise line shortly. Customers who wish to contact their cruise line can do so using the contact details on their confirmation invoice.”
Royal Caribbean, Fred Olsen, Celebrity and Carnival all stopped accepting bookings from Gill’s in the past few days.
LONDON played host this week to the biggest ship ever to visit the capital.
Luxury cruise liner MS Deutschland berthed in South Quay in London’s Docklands for a 36-hour visit. It took some impressive piloting to get the ship – 175.3m long by 24.4m wide – into the West India Ship Lock.
The lock is 178m long and 24.4m wide, meaning there was just enough room to fit the vessel into the lock and bring her into the deep-water berths of South Quay, at the heart of Canary Wharf.
The ship will return next year to host guests of the German Olympic Sports Confederation who have also announced that they will be using the Museum Of London Docklands as Deutsches Haus (Germany House) during the Games period.
CRUISING has always been a great way to see some superb cities – and now a new website is highlighting that.
CityBreakCruises.co.uk specialises in cruises to Europe’s major cities and around the world.
They want to attract people to cruising by giving threm the opportunity to experience culture and events in Europe’s cities, as well as offering a different type of experience for cruise fans.
Another benefit is that the “city” experience is complemented by the onboard food and entertainment.
