Flights cancelled as volcanic ash returns
Jetstar has cancelled some domestic flights tomorrow as MetService warns that volcanic ash could pass over parts of the lower South Island tomorrow.
The airline has cancelled four Queenstown services tomorrow to avoid flying through the ash.
Qantas says its Sydney to Queenstown service scheduled for tomorrow will be delayed by 24 hours.
Air New Zealand says it expects to operate its normal schedule of flights to and from affected airports, including Invercargill, Queenstown, Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch.
“With the ongoing presence of ash, Air New Zealand is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the MetService to identify safe flight paths below or around areas of ash,” said General Manager Airline Operations and Safety and Chief Pilot Captain David Morgan.
Thousands of travellers have been left stranded since ash from Chile’s Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano first moved over New Zealand airspace on June 12.
