We visit Travelodge Horsham Central in the West Sussex market town

Today we feature Travelodge Horsham Central.

What’s it like? Bright, clean and airy. This is one of the budget chain’s newest hotels, right in the centre of the historic West Sussex market town (the clue’s in the name).

Many rooms look over the High Street and the town’s Shelley Fountain, created to commemorate the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley who was born in the town.

Spick and span … Travelodge room

The hotel is only a couple of months old so the place is spick and span with that freshly laid carpet smell … if that appeals to you!

Room any good? The room was basic but did the job. It was nice being one of the first guests to stay there.

No problem with noise from other guests which was a relief although they do warn of possible noise from the setting up of the Saturday morning market, although it didn’t affect us.

Eat here or grab a pizza? If you like eating out of a vending machine you are in luck.

If not, seeing as there’s no bar or restaurant, your best bet is to head to Horsham’s up-and- coming restaurant quarter on East Street, a short walk from the hotel.

You’ll find an array of fine restaurants from independents to Giraffe, Pizza Express and Wagamama.

Trendy new Japanese Wabi was recently voted one of the top 100 restaurants in the country and Peter Andre was seen dining there in a recent episode of his reality show.

What else? Historic Horsham is not short on attractions. The Medieval Causeway, lined with beautiful homes, is perfect for a gentle stroll down to the River Arun.

Horsham Museum is great to while away a couple of hours and there’s a fabulous country park at nearby Southwater.

So you’d go back? Yes. I’m no snob when it comes to hotels and the simplicity in the hotel’s philosophy appeals to me.

Who needs fluffy bathrobes and fancy toiletries?

It’s a room for sleeping in and as long as it’s clean and warm with a bed and roof, that does the job.

What’s the damage? Travelodge rooms start from 19 a night, nationwide. .
